The hard work has been done, and yet again, we are proud to be able to bring yet another powerful line-up of speakers to our annual Asia Pacific Training Conference. The website is still being updated, and you will soon see the speakers photos and bios, plus full details of all the presentations and workshops.

The conference this year features some changes from the previous events based on audience feedback. Here are just some of the improvements that will be featured:

  • The main seminar day on 2nd December will now feature a single track. In previous events, we held a technical and a management track, but attendees at both tracks expressed a desire to hear both sides. Hence, this year the seminar will take place in the Microsoft Conference Hall with a focus on "Understanding the Bigger Picture". After all, the world of Cyber Incident Response and Digital Forensics is a complex one with many legal grey areas and is increasingly complicated by aspects such as Legal Professional Privilege (LPP) Claims and requirements to make sense of huge volumes of data (especially e-mail) and handle live critical systems. This is futher complicated by the prevalence and power of ubiquitous mobile devices. How to prepare for investigations involving all these elements is the main theme of this conference and is equally relevant to practitioners as it is to modern security managers, CIOs, lawyers, auditors, prosecutors and judiciary.

  • At the end of the main seminar day (prior to the networking function), there will be an open forum featuring leading experts from the legal, forensics and IR fields on the panel - this was a requested feature from previous events and provides you with opportunities to get answers to your own issues from the experts.

  • The hands-on tracks will be moved this year from the HK University to the fantastic surroundings of the HK Police Officer's Club. This is a more compact venue and is easily accessible in the heart of Hong Kong (Causeway Bay).

  • There will be three hands-on tracks again, but due to the slightly smaller size of the venue, we are restricted to a total of 100 attendees for the workshops. This year we invite attendees to bring their own notebook computers, and the presenters will provide VMWare Virtual machines which can be run in the free, multi-platform VMPlayer. These will be distributed prior to the workshops and will include all the training material so that attendees can take them away for their own use later. The Police Officers Club has free wi-fi throughout the premises, and each class will be networked for file sharing.

  • After we ran out of time to prepare a forensic challenge for the 2007 Conference, we have had repeated requests to get one up for this year. Our leading expert trainers are currently discussing the best way forward for this, & if we get one up and running, you can expect it to certainly provide a high level of complexity!! More later...
